SANTA MONICA — November 2026. Santa Monica Measure VV proposes changes to protections for tenants renting single-unit homes and condominiums. The ABC7 local election table shows 17,618 Yes votes (61.64%) and 10,964 No votes (38.36%).
What is on the ballot?
The city charter amendment addresses just-cause eviction protections and conditions for owner-occupancy evictions in covered properties. The terms include requirements affecting when an owner must take occupancy and how long that occupancy should last. The complete ballot text and applicable housing laws control exceptions and enforcement; approval would not imply a change to every tenancy automatically.
Separate from other tenant measures
Measure VV is a separate ballot question from Santa Monica Measures GG and RR. GG concerns Rent Control Board rules and RR addresses certain nonpayment eviction restrictions. The initial Yes lead on VV is not certified.
